You know that your library card gives you access to a world of information, but did you know the library offers access to databases that you can use anytime? Here are some of the things that you can do (without even leaving the couch)!
Find a Great Book to Read
NoveList offers a great way to find your next favorite read using expert recommendations, reviews, articles, lists and more. Once you find a great title, you can check our online catalog to find out if it is available on shelf or as an eBook through MyMediaMall or Axis 360, or see if there is an audiobook through Hoopla.
Use an online encyclopedia
Let's face it… sometimes Wikipedia gets it wrong and you need a better source for your project. Full access to Encyclopedia Britannica online means you can always get the facts you need - even at the last minute. Need to go even more in-depth? The Gale Virtual Reference Library has thousands of books covering every topic imaginable… history, art, science, biographies, geography, literature, law etc. You need it? They have it.
Research a Current Event
Proquest/Chicago Tribune provides access to Chicago Tribune article from 1985-present. You can research current events, past events, or study an event over time.
Learn about Science
The Science Reference Center gives you access to science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources. You can get ready for your science fair or just learn something new about biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, health and medicine, life science, mathematics, physics, technology, wildlife and more.
Find a Biography
The Biography Reference Center provides access to tons of biographies (longer books and short biographies) for quick, solid facts at various reading levels. In fact, it will give you a Lexile score for many bios so you know if it is a good choice for your next project.
How does it work?
Use the links above to get to the site you want and enter your Riverside Public Library card number for access. For MyMediaMall, eReadIllinois, and Hoopla, you will also need a working email address along with the PIN you use to access your account through the library catalog. If you don't know your PIN, please visit our Patron Services desk to reset it.
